General Purpose
GPPS, a General Purpose transparent polymer, boasts high stiffness, dimensional stability, low specific weight, and strong electrical properties. Its transparency and ease of manufacturing provide many advantages over other polymers. Additionally, as a General Purpose material, it also offers relatively low costs.
What are the benefits of GPPS?
- FDA compliant—non-toxic
- Good dimensional stability
- Low cost compared to other materials
- Easy to paint, glue, and print on
- Excellent aesthetic qualities

GPPS applications
Toys, CD cases, hangers, plastic cups, IT appliances, jewellery boxes, and other enclosing items are made from GPPS since it is easily moulded. General purpose polystyrene is also used in the medical industry to produce test tubes, test kit housings, diagnostic devices, petri dishes, tissue trays, and other items. Since GPPS is easily moulded, it is used to make toys, CD cases, hangers, plastic cups, IT appliances, jewellery boxes, and other enclosing products. In the medical industry, general purpose polystyrene is used to make test tubes, test kit housings, testing instruments, petri dishes, tissue trays, and other products. General-purpose Polystyrene is needed by all major industries, including food packaging, refrigeration, audio/video production, consumer electronics, office equipment, medical devices, and toys.
GPPS vs HIPS
General Intentions Polystyrene, also known as crystal-clear polystyrene, is a totally transparent and rigid material that is commonly used in food packaging. It is also low-cost, X-ray resistant, odor- and taste-free, and simple to handle, in addition to being FDA compliant.
High-Affect Polystyrene, on the other hand, is impact resistant at the expense of transparency and clarity. It’s easy to paint and glue on. It is cost-effective and simple to manufacture, but it is usually more costly than GPPS. HIPS has a matte finish and is a common thermoforming material. Yogurt cups are a common HIPS application.
